Scotts Bluff towers an imposing 800 feet over the Platte River, making it a well-known landmark when pioneers were traveling the Oregon Trail. Featured are the 1.6-mile Saddle Rock Trail, which heads up from the museum to the summit (also reachable by a free shuttle service), and the Oregon Trail Pathway, displaying reconstructions of covered wagons. The park is located to the west of Gering and Scottsbluff, easily close enough for a daytime outing from either town.
